Summer 2023 Northamptonshire House

In this project, our brief was to bring back to life all the wood elements of the building, including the oak windows and doors, oak cladding and wooden arches which support the roof structures.

To reach the highest parts we used a boom lift.

To achieve the desired outcome, we have sanded the grey wood surface and the remains of the last protective coating. For this work, we have used several different dust-free tools from Festool, which collect harmful particles of sanded wood directly into the vacuum cleaner to limit their release into the air. An additional essential function of Festool mobile grinding devices is undoubtedly the low risk of these devices to the workers themselves by minimizing vibrations generated when working with these devices.

For grinding the oak parts, we have used abrasive discs with a grit of 60, 80, 120, 150, and 180, depending on the degree of destruction of the wood coating by weather conditions and UV rays.

The glass balcony elements had been carefully dismantled to gain access to the doors on the first floor, and after completing the renovation work, they were thoroughly cleaned, washed and placed back in their original positions.

All the wooden surfaces have been covered with Osmo Oil UV Protection which, is the ultimate protection for exterior wood with factor 12 UV filters to protect against the greying effects of UV damage.
